As our son began to deal with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression when he was young, he started to self-medicate. This led to suicidal thoughts and drug use. It eventually led to problems with the law. We started getting anxious from worrying about him. There were days when we didn’t know whether he was alive or dead. It was a very scary time for our family. The chaos filled our home with lots of tension. It was very draining on our relationships with each other. It also strained relations with extended family members. Sometimes it made us feel as if we hadn’t done our job as parents. Our good friends along with our friends in our Connect Group class and church were very supportive and prayed with us and for us. We never felt as if they judged us. I started praying more prayers that were directed toward my son’s problems. On one of the days I was really struggling, God led me to Psalms 34. It’s a Psalm that I read often if I begin to struggle when things don’t go our way. At times it seemed that the more I prayed, the worse circumstances became. However, all the praying made me feel closer to God, and He would give me peace when I really needed it. God revealed Himself to me through things people would say, through stories I would read, and through sermons on TV from preachers I didn’t know. There were times when I felt a physical sensation as I was being filled with and surrounded by peace. There have been many more ways that He let me know he heard my prayers. I have learned that I cannot control the situation no matter how hard I try. I knew I had to trust my faith and give it to God. It was not easy, and I had to give up control more than once. Going to Al-Anon meetings helped us to realize that what we were feeling was normal. Talking to others who have or are going through the same thing has been very helpful. Having people to talk to and pray with us has brought a lot of peace. The best thing to come out of this is the relationship my son now has with God. With little to do while sitting in jail, he was constantly reading his Bible and discussing it with me. He would end his night in jail with me reading my devotion to him. Though things aren’t perfect, I have found strength through God during these chaotic times. In Psalm 34:18, we find these reassuring words: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." When chaos surrounds us, and our hearts are burdened, He draws near to bring solace and peace. This verse reveals the essence of God as our Mediator. Life can throw us into turmoil, whether it's personal challenges, crises, or the daily hustle. It's essential to acknowledge that chaos exists and affects us all. Even in chaos, turn your heart toward God. In 1 Timothy 2:5, we're reminded that "there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." Seek His presence through prayer, meditation, and worship. As your Mediator, Jesus intercedes on your behalf. Romans 8:34 assures us that "Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us." Trust that He is working in the chaos, even when you can't see the immediate results. In John 16:33, Jesus says, "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." Finding God in chaos means finding peace in His promises. As you experience God's mediation in your life, share His love and comfort with others. Galatians 6:2 encourages us to "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." In the middle of chaos, remember that God is our Mediator, draw near to heal our brokenness. Trust in His presence, find peace in His promises, and share His love with others. When you do, you'll discover that even in the most chaotic moments, He is there, guiding us through the storm. Comments are closed.
