Family Guide Exodus 19-20 (The Ten Commandments)

For Kids (Ages 6-12):
 
1. What do you think it was like for the people of Israel to camp at the foot of the mountain for days? Can you imagine what they saw and heard?
 

2.  God told Moses to tell the people to be ready and consecrated. What do you think it means to be ready for something important?

3. What are some rules or guidelines that you think are really important for us to follow in our family? Why are they important?

4. Let's talk about the first commandment, "You shall have no other gods before me." What does it mean to have God as our number one priority in our lives?

5. Do you think it's easy or hard to keep all of God's commandments? Why?

For Teenagers (Ages 13-18):
 
1. Exodus 19 talks about how God came down in smoke and fire on Mount Sinai. Why do you think God chose to reveal Himself this way to the Israelites?

2. In Exodus 20, we find the Ten Commandments. Which one(s) do you find the most challenging to follow in your life? Why?

3. How do you think the Ten Commandments apply to our lives today? Can you give examples of situations where they are relevant?

4. The fifth commandment says to honor your parents. What does honoring your parents look like in your daily life, especially as a teenager?

5. Discuss the idea of not coveting in the tenth commandment. How can the desire for what others have affect our happiness and relationships?
